Garcia to Tigers, Byrd to Boston
Tigers will sign Garcia to a minor league deal hoping he will be ready for a post-season push. Good luck with that.
Boston acquires Byrd for a player to be named or cash. White Sox lost out on that deal.
Vazquez Continues Woes; Sox Fail to Sweep
I do not understand Vazquez. The guy has outstanding stuff, yet when he struggles, he is so-so bad. Pitches are not even close to the plate, and last night was no exception. After a amazing catch in CF by Nick Swisher to save a run, Vazquez gave up a two-run homer to Cabrera with the first pitch offered. You could sense this was going to be a long game for the Sox – one that will not bode well if Vazquez continued to pitch like that. Good for the Sox, he settled down and got into a grove until he started leaving his offspeed stuff up in the zone. The game was still in reach for the Sox even when they were down 5-3.
The offense was a little disappointing. Man at third with less than two outs? Nada. Sox couldn’t bring them home. The rally in the 8th? I felt it was cut short because Cox sent Thome home off of Konerko’s Double. You cannot first-to-home Thome. I’m sorry, but he had nothing left in the tank and the Sox paid the price, settling for Quentin’s solo shot.
The bullpen came in and gave up three runs which put the game out of reach for the Sox.
It was really good to see Paulie have a decent game. I hope he can pull it around because this team needs him.
Griffey still looks alittle uncomfortable at the plate. With Paulie heating up, Griffey needs to step it up a little. He can do it. I have faith in him. I still feel there are going to be good things that come from Griffey in the near future.
Sox fall 8-3.
Today’s Lineup:
1. OC, SS
2. AJ, C
3. CQ, LF
4. Thome, DH
5. Paulie, 1B
6. Jr, RF
7. Ramirez, 2B
8. Swisher, CF
9. Uribe, 3B
Griffey is back in the lineup today playing in RF. JD has the night off.
Sox look for the sweep today, and they send Javvy to the mound. The Sox will need another strong outing from their Starter today.
Uribe’s defense has been awesome as of late, and the Sox need to continue to play good defense behind their pitching.
I would like to see a little more situational hitting: men in motion, bunting, and hitting to the opposite field. The latter helped Thome raise his average. I like to see the same from Paulie and Swisher.
After having a day off yesterday, look for Griffey to be in the line up today.
Danks Fantastic, Sox Cruise to Win
Danks was amazing tonight, and he got some early help from Jim Thome with a three run homer. Sox added two more in the bottom of the 8th off of a Alexei Ramirez 2-run RBI single. The bullpen was solid, and the rolled to a 5-1 score. With the Twins winning, it was good for the Sox to pull away with a win to have a game lead.
Sox look for the sweep tomorrow.
John Danks takes the mound as the White Sox look to take the series from the Tigers tonight. After the sweet, yet tiring extra innings game last night, the White Sox look for Danks to have a strong performance tonight. I think he is up to the task.
Thornton, aside from the two-run homer, pitched amazing for three innings last night. Knowing that only Russell was left in the pen, Matt went out in the 14th. Boone Logan had a very nice inning of pitching, and I was glad to see something positive from the young left hander. Dotal and Jenks were solid.
I might have been wrong about Jr hitting a two-run homer, but he did have a single and the monkey is off his back. You could tell he was nervous, wanting to do good in front of the home crowd. He might have struck out three times, but I was still plastered to the tv screen for each of his at-bats.
This will be another big night for the Soxsiders going against Verlander. I have a feeling that JD is going to have a big game. He’s due. Plus, I still think we are going to see Jr rejuvenated in Chicago just like Edmonds was for the Cubs.
Tonight’s Lineup:
1. OC, SS
2. Swish, CF
3. CQ, LF
4. JD, RF
5. Thome, DH
6. PK, 1B
7. Ramirez, 2B
8. Hall, C
9. Uribe, 3B
Swisher Is So So Sweet! Sox Come Back to Win in Extras
What an amazing game tonight? I think my chest was going to burst. I had a feeling that the Sox going to win this one, but when Polanco hit the two run home run, my faith in the Sox was still strong. I knew if we could get baserunners we would have chance to win the game. We got a huge break with the Renteria error which placed runners at first and third with only one out. I wanted Thome to get a Sac Fly, but he went down swinging only to give way to the dramatic home run by Dirty 30, Nick Swisher.
The bullpen did great, and it was sad to see Thornton give up the two run home run, but I thought he really pitched well besides that. It was good to see the bullpen hold the Tigers as long as they did.
Props has to go to Uribe. Who most likely will be lost in the craziness of Swish’s home run, but his defense was outstanding tonight. Along with the bullpen holding off the Tigers, Uribe did it with his glove.
I was so happy to see Paulie get some better at bats, and I thought his home run was a good momentum changer for the Sox. It put the game close with the Sox only down by two at that point.
Jr had his first hit at Comiskey, going 1-6 with three Ks.
Welcome back to Chicago Farnsworth. Ramirez greeted you with a home run.
Tonight’s lineup:
1. OC, SS
2. AJ, C
3. CQ, LF
4. JD, RF
5. Thome, DH
6. Paulie, 1B
7. The Kid, CF
8. Ramirez, 2B
9. Uribe, 3B
Uribe gets the nod over Fields. Crede had a set back in his rehab session in Triple A. Paulie in the lineup tonight.
The Sox send Floyd to the mound who has done well versus the Tigers, having a 3-0 record. The Sox are looking to Floyd to help them distance themselves from the Twinkies. The Twins lost last night, giving the Sox and the Twins a virtual tie for first for the AL Central.
Tonight will also mark the debut of Ken Griffey Jr at Comiskey Park. Look for a big crowd on hand for tonight’s game. Jr is hitting over a 400 clip since being a Sox with 2 RBIs.
