Broadway, Sox Offense Show How Sweeps Are Done

Lance Broadway walked away as a winner today.  If the first inning was any indication of how the game was going to end, it didn’t look that good for the Pale Hose.  Broadway turned it around, and he pitched 5 1/3 innings to be eligible for the win.  The bullpen came in and pretty much slammed the door on the Royals.  Russell pitched two impressive innings retiring all six batters, four via the strikeout.

With the Sox clinging to a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the 6th, the offense finally took over by placing two men on for the always dangerous Jim Thome.  Thome lauched his 25th homer of the year, but the offense still had something to say.  Paulie, who botched a sure out to score two runs for the Royals, started to click at the plate.  He felt a little left out of the offense and hit a home run to LF.  Alexei stepped up to the plate, and he didn’t want to walk alway empty handed and hit a home run.  The Royals bring a new pitcher for Uribe – who hasn’t hit a home run since May 8th – to connect for his 4th home run of the year.  It was back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs for the Sox, and they cruised to a 9-2 win and completed the sweep – their first of the second half if I recall.

This was a statement game.  After a rough first inning, the Sox regrouped nicely and took it to the Royals.  Griffey, batting 2nd, was 1-2 with two walks and a run scored.  Quentin was hit again for the 6th game in a row.  JD, who continues to be clutch, and is the MVP of the Sox this year, hit a two run double.  The man of the hour was Paulie who went 3-5 with two singles and a home run.  He raised his average to .226 and has been doing an okay job at the plate.  I really hope this sparks Paulie.  I think most people can forget his start with a strong finish.  Remember it’s how you finish!

I liked Griffey batting 2nd.  He looked more comfortable batting there than 5th,6th, or 7th.

Vazquez Pitches Gem; Sox Win

Sox WIN!  And, boy did we really need this win.  It was a morale win after the Sox waste the beautiful gem Danks pitched last night.

Vazquez really stepped up tonight and pitched a whale of a ballgame.  The Sox needed an outing like this from the 32 year old starter, and Vazquez dominated the Royals lineup.  It was nice to see the Sox bounce back from the disappointing loss last night.  They seemed to be a livelier crew and responded quick and efficeint.  Russell came in the 9th and cruised to the final out.

Congrats go to Chris Getz for his first hit and RBI as a Major Leaguer.

Brian Anderson hit a double in the 8th after coming in as a defensive replacement for Griffey at the top of the inning.

The White Sox have Vazquez on the bump tonight versus The Royals.

CQ was scratched from tonight’s lineup because of general soreness. ( He was hit with a pitch in 5 consecutive games ).  Konerko will play first, and Swisher will start in LF.

Critical Series With the Royals

When you think of the Royals, you think easy wins.  Not this year.  The Sox have struggled with the Royals, and the Royals lead the series 7-5.  There is no joking about it.  The Sox need a sweep and a little help from the Yankees ( I hate asking anything from the Yankees ).  The Sox have Javvy, Buehrle, and TBD ( most likely Carrasco ) for the series.

Javvy has been downright bad these last few months.  He drives me insane, and I am sure I will have some few choice words before the game is over tonight.  He needs to trust his stuff and attack the hitters.  When he starts to nibble around the plate, he starts to walk people, loses focus, and bam!  a two run homer.  He needs to make sure his offspeed stuff is down low and not over the plate to get hammered.  Location. Location. Location.

Buehrle walked away with a stellar performance Friday night against Boston.  He has been hot and cold as of late.  When he is hot, he is sizzling, and when he is cold, the opposing batters are grinning like hyenas.  Main think for Buehrle is location.  He cannot hang his offspeed stuff or it will get hammered.

Carrasco has been fantastic at home, and he will most likely get the starting nod Thursday since Lance Broadway pitched Monday night.

The Sox really need a strong outing from their pitching staff, but the offense has to get some run support.  Griffey needs to pick it up a little.  I am not looking for bombs.  Just solid baseball.  He is swinging the bat a little better, so lets hope the butterflies are finally gone.  I keep looking like an idiot saying he will break out soon.  I’ve been saying that for a week now.  It’s coming soon!

Quentin cannot do everything, but it seems that when he struggles, the team struggles.  He is the heatbeat of the offense.

Dotel Pitches Out of Jam; Sox Homer Back to First

While Gavin Floyd didn’t have his best stuff, but it was good enough for a win today.  Leaving the 6th with one out, Thornton loaded the bases.  Dotel came in relief, and got Mike Lowell to ground into an inning ending double play – saving the game for the Sox and maybe the season.  It was a key game for the Sox, especially with Contreras going down the day before.

After being down 3-0, the Sox got on the board first with a solo shot from JD, but that was only the beginning.  The Sox managed two two-run homers from Quentin and Thome, giving the Sox the lead 5-3.  The Sox scored an insurance run making it 6-3, but Boston wasn’t out of the game yet.  They managed to score two runs which lead to Dotel entering the game.  Amazing.

It wasn’t the best placed game with errors on both sides, but it was a win.  With the Twins losing in extras to the Royals, the White Sox climb back into first place of the AL Central.

Boone Logan and Josh Fields were sent down Triple A, and Lance Broadway and Chris Getz were called up.  Logan struggled for most of the second half, and I am surprised they waited this long to send him down.  The Sox sign Horacio Ramirez to fill in for the bullpen.

Ozzie Suspended Two Games

MLB suspended Ozzie Guillen two games for
touching an Umpire and his post game comments after the Sox
lost to the Royals 14-3 Sunday.
