MacDougal Struggles in Detriot
I guess it’s a love affair with Mike MacDougal. The talented right hander has stuff that makes any manager go gah-gah. I was very learly when MacDougal made the roster this year. I felt he needed to prove something to me. I just didn’t see the MacDougal of 2006 in Spring Training. I am sure MacDougal has a short leach on him, but I have a feeling we will be seeing him sent back down to AAA or dangled for trade bait. Then again, with the way he is pitching, what team would want him. Cooper has been masterful with many pitchers, so it has to be something that MacDougal needs to figure out for himself.
The question is – who in AAA could replace him? No one really stands out. I like Mike, but he needs to get it together and soon. Tampa Bay is next, and I don’t want another repeat of Boone Logan from last year. MacDougal has the talent. He just needs to bring all together. Lets hope for the best.
He Gone!
When you think about the Winter Meetings, you think trades… lots of trades. Lucky for White Sox fans Christmas came early this year, and Kenny Williams sent Javy packing to Atlanta along with Boone Logan for 4 prospects.
The highest prospect is Tyler Flowers: a power-hitting catcher. The wildcard in the deal is the pitcher Santos. Lets see if Williams still has the golden touch.
Dye is rumored to be next to exit Chicago. While he is only of my favorites during his stay in Chicago, I understand for the need to get younger at the position. Dye was ranked 27th in range at Right Field. If Dye is dealt, CQ would shift over to the vacated Right Field spot. Which will leave a void in Left Field that could be filled by Brian Anderson. I think proved this year that he should be given an opportunity to compete for a starter role in spring training.
I would like to see the Sox pitch up a veteran starter. They still need a lead-off hitter as well as a Center Fielder, Third Basemen, and a Second Basemen. I am not sold on Fields playing Third Base. Hopefully, Williams is going to put the cash he saved by trading Swisher and Javy to good use by getting a decent Free-Agent.
Roster Moves for the Sox
Boone Logan and Josh Fields were sent down Triple A, and Lance Broadway and Chris Getz were called up. Logan struggled for most of the second half, and I am surprised they waited this long to send him down. The Sox sign Horacio Ramirez to fill in for the bullpen. Fields was a disappointment; his defense was terrible, and his offense wasn’t that much better.
This is Broadways’ second call up while the first for Getz. Getz impressed a lot of the staff in spring training. Looking forward to see what he can do for the Sox.
Sox Fall to Second; Contreras Gone for the Year
Contreras injuried his achilles while running to cover first base Saturday, and he will be gone for the year. DJ Carrasco pitched 4+ innings and gave up only one run. He is the front runner to fill in for the 5th spot in the rotation.
Boone Logan blew a hold, and the Sox fall to the Boston Red Sox – tying the series a game a piece.
Griffey out of the lineup for general soreness. Wise played CF.
Danks Fantastic, Sox Cruise to Win
Danks was amazing tonight, and he got some early help from Jim Thome with a three run homer. Sox added two more in the bottom of the 8th off of a Alexei Ramirez 2-run RBI single. The bullpen was solid, and the rolled to a 5-1 score. With the Twins winning, it was good for the Sox to pull away with a win to have a game lead.
Sox look for the sweep tomorrow.
John Danks takes the mound as the White Sox look to take the series from the Tigers tonight. After the sweet, yet tiring extra innings game last night, the White Sox look for Danks to have a strong performance tonight. I think he is up to the task.
Thornton, aside from the two-run homer, pitched amazing for three innings last night. Knowing that only Russell was left in the pen, Matt went out in the 14th. Boone Logan had a very nice inning of pitching, and I was glad to see something positive from the young left hander. Dotal and Jenks were solid.
I might have been wrong about Jr hitting a two-run homer, but he did have a single and the monkey is off his back. You could tell he was nervous, wanting to do good in front of the home crowd. He might have struck out three times, but I was still plastered to the tv screen for each of his at-bats.
This will be another big night for the Soxsiders going against Verlander. I have a feeling that JD is going to have a big game. He’s due. Plus, I still think we are going to see Jr rejuvenated in Chicago just like Edmonds was for the Cubs.
Tonight’s Lineup:
1. OC, SS
2. Swish, CF
3. CQ, LF
4. JD, RF
5. Thome, DH
6. PK, 1B
7. Ramirez, 2B
8. Hall, C
9. Uribe, 3B
Observations, Game #1: White Sox vs Angels
Here are some observations I’ve made while attending the first two games ( I have tickets for all four games ) of the Angels series in Anaheim.
Game #1:
OC had a standing ovation when he received his Golden Glove. Angels fans welcomed back their beloved SS at every at-bat. Which was totally different for AJ. Angels fans cannot get past the dropped third strike still. Their boos get worse every year, and I have attended Sox vs Angels games in Anaheim since ’05.
Buehrle wasn’t at his sharpest. His fastball topped out at 86mph. I realize that Buehrle is a contact pictcher, but after the Crede error, I would have pulled Buehrle for another pitcher.
One-out, Angels have runners at first and second, and Buehrle pitched to Vlad, who is a Sox killer. I sat there when Vlad was coming to the plate saying that Buehrle should walk him. Hunter wasn’t hitting the ball well off of Buehrle and would have been a better Double Play candidate than Vlad would have.
Wassermann and Logan. Both pitchers have been struggling, so why bring them into a situation where the game win still attainable? If the bullpen did it’s job and held the Angels to six runs, we could have won that game.
I would have had a PR for Thome in the 9th. Granted, you already put Ozuna and Ramirez into the game. I felt if we had a little more speed, we could have scored another run possibly.
Some positives I saw from Game #1: I liked how the Sox fought back for the Angels to bring in K-Rod in the 9th. Dotel and Thornton were able to hold the Angels to only 10 runs and pitched well.
